Therapy Terms, Made Simple
What goes into your care?
Therapy can sound confusing at first. It helps to think of every treatment plan as three choices that fit together.
1. Who Comes
The format
- Individual therapy
- Couples counseling
- Family therapy
- Child & teen therapy
- Virtual sessions
2. What We Work On
The focus
- Anxiety & depression
- Trauma & PTSD
- ADHD & behavior
- Life transitions & grief
- Identity & LGBTQ+ support
3. How We Help
The approach
- CBT
- DBT
- Play therapy
- Mindfulness
- Behavioral interventions
For example: a parent brings their 8-year-old for child therapy to work on ADHD and behavior at school, using play therapy and behavioral strategies.
Or: an adult comes for individual therapy to manage anxiety after a big life change, using CBT and mindfulness.
We don't do one-size-fits-all. Your clinician puts these three pieces together around your goals, so your plan is built for you.
Our Approaches
Evidence-based methods we use
CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Thoughts, feelings, and actions all affect each other. CBT helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns, test them, and replace them with more balanced ones. It's practical and focused on the present, and you leave sessions with skills to use right away for anxiety, depression, and stress.
DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
DBT builds skills for handling intense emotions: staying grounded in a crisis, calming big feelings, and communicating needs without conflict. It's especially helpful for teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by their emotions.
Play Therapy
For children
Kids often can't put big feelings into words, but they can show them through play. Using toys, art, and storytelling, our therapists help children work through emotions, build social skills, and gain confidence in a way that feels natural to them.
Mindfulness
Present-moment awareness
Mindfulness teaches you to notice thoughts and feelings without getting swept away by them. Simple breathing and awareness practices lower stress, improve focus, and make it easier to respond instead of react.
Questions
Common billing questions
How do I know if my insurance covers therapy?
Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask about outpatient mental health benefits. You can also send us your plan details and we'll help you check.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt for your sessions. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you submit it to your insurer and they may reimburse part of what you paid.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. Many of our clinicians see clients virtually through secure video. Ask us how your plan covers virtual sessions.
How do I get started?
Call (689) 244-1743 or send us your contact info. We'll answer your questions, check your coverage, and match you with the right clinician.
